Mood swings, irritability, and shutdown
Some brains move quickly from overwhelm to collapse. Others stay flat, reactive, or emotionally unpredictable, even when nothing in particular is wrong.

The Brain Pattern Behind It
Mood that swings quickly, irritability that shows up out of proportion to the moment, or a tendency to go flat and shut down are often signs of a nervous system that hasn't had enough support to regulate itself, not a character flaw or a lack of willpower.
What this can look like: snapping at people you love and not knowing why, feeling fine one hour and depleted the next, going numb or checking out when things get overwhelming, or noticing that your emotional reactions feel bigger, or smaller, than the situation calls for.
These patterns usually make sense once you look at the nervous system underneath them. A brain that swings between extremes, or shuts down to protect itself, is often doing the best it can with the regulation resources it currently has.
How DBT Helps
- →Help the brain build a wider window of tolerance, so reactions match the moment more often
- →Support faster, fuller recovery after stress spikes, instead of staying activated or shutting down
- →Reduce the intensity and frequency of mood swings over time
- →Build steadier baseline regulation so shutdown becomes less of a default response
Who This Is For
- •People whose mood feels unpredictable to themselves and the people around them
- •Anyone who notices they go numb, flat, or checked out under stress
- •People who feel like small things trigger outsized reactions
- •Those who've been told they're 'too sensitive' or 'too intense' and want a different explanation than that

Common Questions
Not necessarily. Mood swings, irritability, and shutdown can happen with or without a formal diagnosis. We look at the underlying brain and nervous-system patterns rather than requiring a specific label before we can help.
No, and we don't recommend that. Brain-based training works alongside therapy and medical care, not in place of it. We're glad to coordinate with other providers you're already working with.
Many people notice earlier or steadier recovery from emotional spikes within the first several sessions, with more stable changes typically building over weeks of consistent training.
The qEEG brain map is best done in person. Ongoing sessions can be in-person or through Home Training, with equipment shipped to you.
